Profile

Erasmus Ndemole Migyikra brings a genuinely international dimension to the Kihara Njuguna & Company Advocates team.

An Advocate of the High Court of Kenya, Erasmus has built a distinguished career at the intersection of international law, human rights, peace and conflict, humanitarian affairs and the protection of vulnerable communities.

A substantial part of his professional life has been spent with the United Nations Mission in South Sudan — UNMISS, where his work has centred on the protection of children affected by armed conflict.

His responsibilities have placed him in complex environments requiring engagement with governments, security institutions, communities, humanitarian organisations and other stakeholders on some of the most sensitive questions arising under international humanitarian and human-rights frameworks.

United Nations experience

Erasmus has worked extensively within South Sudan on issues involving children and armed conflict, including the protection and reintegration of children affected by conflict and efforts to prevent recruitment and other grave violations against children.

His work has involved engagement with state institutions, security actors and communities on compliance with international child-protection standards.

He has participated in initiatives concerning:

  • Child recruitment by armed actors
  • Demobilisation and reintegration
  • Protection of displaced children
  • Access to education
  • Child marriage
  • Community protection mechanisms
  • Human-rights compliance
  • Conflict-related protection risks
  • Implementation of international child-protection commitments

Erasmus has risen into senior child-protection leadership within UNMISS, including responsibility for the Greater Bahr el Ghazal region. That experience brings to the firm something comparatively rare in conventional private practice: an understanding of international law not simply as doctrine, but as a framework that must function amid real governments, institutions, conflicts and international organisations.

International academic formation

His academic background reflects the global nature of his professional career.

Erasmus has undertaken legal and postgraduate studies across Africa and Europe, developing expertise in international criminal justice, international humanitarian law, human rights, refugee studies and peace and conflict.

His qualifications include advanced study in:

  • Peace & Conflict Studies
  • International Crime & Justice
  • International Criminal Law
  • International Human Rights
  • International Humanitarian Law
  • Law
  • Social Work & Administration

His studies have taken him through institutions and programmes in Ghana, Austria, the United Kingdom, Italy, Germany and Kenya.

International perspective for complex matters

Within the wider KNC practice, Erasmus strengthens the firm’s capacity to understand mandates involving international institutions and international legal frameworks.

His experience is particularly relevant to matters touching on:

  • International Human Rights Law
  • International Humanitarian Law
  • International Criminal Law
  • Refugee & Migration Matters
  • International Organisations
  • NGOs & Development Institutions
  • Peace & Conflict
  • Cross-Border Legal Issues
  • Government and Institutional Engagement

For clients operating across jurisdictions or within complex institutional environments, Erasmus brings a perspective forged through direct experience with international organisations and some of the most challenging humanitarian contexts in the region.
